When we were kids, there was a cartoon on TV called The Feather Snake. I cannot remember what it was all about, only that the feathery snake was not really a snake to me but more like one of those long Chinese paper dragons full of colours, and a little boy was riding it. For some reason my brother was quite scared of that dragon-snake that I used to find fascinating, and I could not help but think of what the reason was of my brother’s fear as I didn’t find it scary at all.
We live in a wonderful flat. It is part of a beautiful urbanization located at the top of a small hill in the middle of the countryside. We are far from being isolated but we do live free of traffic, city noises and away from the crowds. We can see the sky, the mountains & the trees from any of the rooms and light floods wildly through any of the generous windows around the apartment. So far for us, it is a great place to live.
I am more & more conscious every day about how much I have to learn in order to be in peace, to better myself, to reach the goal of living a calm life and to be happy.
Quite often we want everything to remain as it is; we want some things to stay immutable; we would like everything to stop moving. However, Life is change and change is permanent, constant & endless movement. We keep walking in our path hoping some times that nothing changes and Life, which is stronger than all this, follows its own will every time, modifying the rules of the game, the set, the actors and even the direction if needed.
We all have tasks or activities in our lives that bring us joy, pleasure, satisfaction or welfare. Dedicating time to them means to create for ourselves a constant flowing source of happiness & enjoyment. Some of these activities can be quite sophisticated, not very affordable or they might require quite a lot of planning. In the other hand, there are others that are nearly always at our reach, available, at easy access. However, do we throw ourselves into them? How much time & energy we dedicate to them? How important is for us to make that sort of investment? What's the price we pay for not doing it?
Summertime invites leisure, rest, relax, winds of change, adventure even… Many of us can have a break at any time of the year; summer, however, seems to be the ultimate holiday season.
It was only around four years ago when with the help of someone who didn’t know me or knew anything about me, someone who asked the right questions & listened to me with interest & attention, all of the sudden I realised that I don’t need to convince anyone about anything, there is nothing I need to sell, I don’t have to please them or to meet their expectations ever again.
There is a thought that keeps coming back into my life over the years: not knowing what to do, which way to go, who am becoming into, how am I going to end up in that place where I want to be, wherever that is…
During our life we go through different schools, jobs, homes, holiday locations, leisure centres, churches, supporting groups, associations… That’s how we get to know the people that we share our time with.
I come back to my photographs, letters, memories & remembered experiences. With each of these pieces I put together a puzzle that keeps making more sense every day & starts looking very alike to the person that I am today.
